In her January article on the E15 server, Komerční banka analyst Jana Steckerová points out that the latest figures for European industry do not sound entirely optimistic. Eurozone industry has been declining for five quarters in a row, and energy-intensive industries in particular have been de facto fighting for survival recently.

The reasons are known – the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the energy crisis. In addition, high interest rates and the rising cost of labor reduce the willingness of companies to invest.

Nevertheless, growth can be expected this year and especially next year. At the end of her analysis, Jana Steckerová states:

European industry should revive in the next quarters. The good condition of European corporations and households should contribute to this. This will lead to growth in purchases of consumer goods and cars. Leading indicators and expected growth in global demand are also beginning to indicate improvement. With better results in the eurozone, the Czech industry should also ride along.
