Find the right companies by product or service

Do you need to find companies that offer a specific product or service - whether in the Czech Republic or abroad? Then common company databases and classic categories such as NACE will often not be enough. Do you want to find relevant companies quickly, accurately and with contacts to the right people? We'll tell you how to do it.

Imagine you need to order a new charger for your phone. How do you go about it? Regardless of how you’re used to shopping, it’s probably only a few clicks, a few taps on the keyboard, and you’re done.

But if you are a businessman and need to find dozens, or rather hundreds, of relevant companies that could become your clients, the situation is much more complicated.

Corporate databases and good old Google

Nowadays, of course, it is not enough to send out your offer en masse to all parties and wait for someone to respond. There is a real risk that it will be the Office for Personal Data Protection.

You need the most precise targeting possible. You need to find companies that are most likely to be interested in your offer.

So what are your options?

Common company databases and NACE classifications

The NACE classification, which is the basis for many register databases, can be useful when searching for companies in more general categories such as “manufacture of rubber products” or “wholesale of beverages”.

However, as we wrote in the article “When NACE is not enough…” , company databases based on NACE have their disadvantages. For example:

  • The categories are sometimes too general . In the article we used fuse manufacturers or bearing distributors as examples.
  • Information in databases tends to be outdated and inaccurate . Sometimes companies themselves are not classified in the correct NACE category. Also, the creators of some databases do not update them frequently enough.
  • It is sometimes problematic to correctly classify new fields into existing NACE categories.

So, unless you really want to target all companies in a certain category, you basically have two options: 1. Go through each company thoroughly and sort them manually. 2. Throw caution to the wind and reach out to everyone in a “carpet raid” style.

The first solution is strikingly reminiscent of the task that poor Cinderella was given by her evil stepmother – it is lengthy, laborious and inefficient. The second solution is quite risky and, in the case of e-mailing, can even result in your domain being blocked.

Search for businesses on Google

Google is of course an extremely powerful tool. However, if you have tried to use it to manually search for hundreds of companies within the framework of business development, you know that this method also has its disadvantages. These are mainly:

  • Time required: Browsing through individual websites, searching for contact information, and then manually typing it into a spreadsheet takes a lot of time. Time that could be used much more productively.
  • Limited relevance: The keywords you are looking for will likely not only be found on potential clients’ websites. They may also be found on news websites, informative and PR articles, or discussion forums. So you need to filter your search results carefully.

Of course, we can’t blame Google, but as a marketer, you can easily spend hours looking at results that don’t get you anywhere.

Example 2: Knife distribution

Another client needed to find knife distributors in Poland, Austria, Germany and other countries. Again, this is a very specific category that does not appear in common databases or in the NACE classification.
